I need the story and the creative team to show up, and feel legitimate. I don’t just want to do it because somebody else has done it, and in doing so, do it badly.
I wrote a piece back in June about how you can’t just wait for gay characters to show up in fiction; you have to put them there. The same goes for stories and creative teams. They won’t just show up. You have to go get them.
Go get them, Tom. Your vocal fans will be happy to make suggestions.
Adding on this person’s response as well, because it’s beautiful. As a straight person, who are you to judge what feels ‘legitimately’ queer? Or is it that you’re saying you feel there are no queer creators who are ‘legitimately’ qualified to create for you and no queer characters ‘legitimately’ worthy of having their own story? Because either way, I call bullshit. You know what’s more harmful than making a good faith effort and accidentally representing something poorly? Not even bothering to try to represent it at all.
